What is a Move Manager?
A senior move manager assists older adults and their families with the physical and emotional aspects of downsizing, moving, or “aging in place”. Your dedicated Move Manager works with you to develop a plan for your project. This can be a move to a new home or a plan to make your current home safer and easier to live in.
What is the difference between a SMM and a traditional moving company?
What we do is go above and beyond what the average moving company does. We help you with downsizing so you don’t bring too much to your new home. We carefully pack, unpack and put things away – something movers don’t do. We take care of the little things like setting up your computers or hanging up your artwork. And we take care of the BIG things like managing your move from start to end.
What if I’m not ready to move right away?
Sometimes the best decision for you is to stay in the home you live in now, but make changes to make it more livable and meet your needs now. The DRS @Home Specialist can help by evaluating your home for safety and livability, discussing what challenges you are facing and finding solutions that can keep you independent and safe.
Do I have to use all the services or can I pick and choose?
You can use as many or as few of our services as your situation requires. We like to meet with you to discuss your needs and how we can help. Our consultations are free, so call us if you are thinking about moving.
Who will be coming to my house to help?
The DRS Team are trained and bonded. Many have backgrounds in healthcare and social services and have the skills and personalities to make projects successful and sometimes even fun.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on the size of your project and how much service you hire us to provide. Most projects are billed at an hourly rate plus materials. An estimate of the project costs is presented to you following a free consultation.
How does downsizing actually work?
A Move Manager will work one-on-one with you to decide what to keep and what to let go of. First, we plan out what furniture will fit and other things you will need in your new home. The things that you can’t take will either be sold, donated, given to family or friends or disposed of. We can take care of that too!
How do I know how much to keep?
We can design a floor plan with you that identifies what furniture will be moved and how much storage space you have for the rest of your belongings. If you are not moving, but need to do some decluttering, we work with you to decide what things you no longer need or want and get those out of the house.
How do you support not only your clients, but their adult children?
Getting ready to move from a home you occupied for decades can be daunting. Busy family members often don’t have the resources or time to assist their parents with the process. Sometimes they don’t even live nearby. DRS becomes part of the team, making the process less stressful for all involved.
What do you do when no one wants your stuff?
You love your China set, but none of your grandchildren wants it. Breaks your heart, but you still need to find a new home for it. DRS works with a network of auction houses, antique dealers, and donation outlets to “rehome” your belongings.
